As with the rest of the UK, we too are on lock down. The marina and boatyard staff are no longer around, apart from the harbourmaster who maintains a watch of the marina and yard. We aren’t even able to take the boat out onto the river as the river police are clamping down on all travel.
Again, like the rest of the world, our future plans are uncertain and change daily.
We were intending to leave Fox’s in mid April and take the boat to the South Coast. We had training booked in May and were also planning a trip to the Channel Islands to collect an outboard engine and new anchor. We were then heading for Falmouth to wait for good weather to cross the Bay of Biscay and head to Portugal, aiming to arrive in the Canaries in October ready for the Atlantic crossing on ARC+ in November. Obviously, most of this is cancelled/postponed. Luckily, we are able to stay at Fox’s for a while and monitor what is happening in UK and the wider world.
The ARC+ has not been cancelled yet, so this would still be an option. We would want to leave the UK in June/July in order to get decent weather to cross Biscay and allow time to explore Spain and Portugal on route. However, this is dependent on whether countries are ‘open’ again by then. If things are not looking like improving by end of May we will delay leaving until next year. This would be disappointing, but it would mean that, once things settle down, we can practise sailing in more familiar waters!
Remembering better times, our last trip down the river before lock down.
Best laid plans eh!, at least Martin will be able to finish in a relaxed state, I’m sure theres other electrical bits & Bob’s he can think of to install 🤣😂😱 and we’ll have the chance to come up and inspect properly.
I hear the seas will be nicer in 2021 anyway
All part of the boating life….everything changes! Now we have more time, Martin is not working from 8am til 8pm!! x
We’re snookered too. Taken the early decision to postpone by 12 months and hope that everything can return to a version of normal by then. Good luck.
Hi,
It must be frustrating for you with the boat being out of the country. At least we are onboard and are continuing to work through our jobs list.
We are monitoring things carefully, hoping that things improve. But we don’t want to rush down to the Canaries and are planning to stop in Spain and Portugal on the way. So we may defer too.
Stay safe
Hey Team Awesome!
Really feel for you guys.. Surely the best place to be now is isolated in the middle if the sea admist an adventure. But having the Fuzz in hot pursuit at 4 mph on the river can’t be fun… Although make a exciting start to the movie.
We all hope things settle down for you guys there, looks like a lock down is inevitable here as people still can’t stay home, beaches packed again this weekend, bikers all out meeting for their usual coffee 😣 so hopefully you be cleared for anchors away before us… Missing our usual Easter fun with you guys. Stay Strong, it’s just a little bad weather to pass on what will be epic.
Much love and Luck 🍀
Hi guys,
The world is a crazy place at the moment and everyone’s plans will be effected. Things are not helped by people not following the guidance, but like I said in the post, there are worst places to be locked down!! Also Martin is getting through his job list…we may even be done before we go!!
Great to hear from you.
Stay safe xx
Enjoying your blogs, Caron, and appreciating the time that “Lockdown” (and end of school governor service) has given me to catch up on reading them! Corvid is definitely not something to catch if you want to have enough lung capacity for the reasonably arduous ARC+ ….. I’m struggling to walk a dog, let alone run a country or crew a yacht, and gather that my relatively mild dose could take several months to recuperate from. Like you, we are enjoying cracking on with our “job list” which the lockdown is making all the easier to focus on! Look at the next few weeks as a good test of living and staying 100% on board and pretend there is nothing but sea in all directions. A good dummy run for the voluntary “lockdown” when you HAVE nothing but sea in all directions for many weeks! Take care, enjoy all that you have.
Hi Rik,
Great to hear from you and pleased you are enjoying the blogs. Next week was supposed to be our departure date for the South Coast and beyond so I was hoping to be able able to blog about places we were visiting! Never mind, we will crack on with the jobs…
Sorry to hear that you have the dreaded virus, but knowing you, you will give it a good kicking! Hope you feel better soon.
