Storm Darcy hit the UK in February, bringing with it wet and windy weather. The eastern side of the country was hit particularly hard and Ipswich got more than its fair share of snow. Fortunately, we were safely berthed at Fox’s Marina and not at anchor. However, it was a surprise to wake up to several inches of snow settled on the boats and pontoons. Over the next couple of days, more snow fell, building our covering up to over 10 inches. (That’s about 25cm to those who need metric!)

It was certainly a beautiful sight: a velvety blanket of soft newly fallen snow.

Much as it was picturesque, it was also bitterly cold. So, yet again, we stayed in as much as possible and ran our aircon. Yes, you read that right – aircon.  We are not hardened artic explorers or crazy people, but our aircon is a reverse cycle system. This means it can provide heat too. We can’t use it at anchor, as it draws too much power. In marinas, we are plugged into the shore power, so there is no drain on our batteries. Toasty!!
